The Senior Tax Director is responsible for leading the firm’s tax activities, including overseeing complex engagements, managing client relationships, and driving business development. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will provide strategic tax solutions while ensuring compliance and optimizing clients’ tax strategies. You will communicate and demystify tax matters including GST and QST while supporting efforts to maximize client understanding and the profitability of proposed solutions.

- Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with the firm’s objectives.
- Provide complex tax advice to clients, including tax planning, compliance, and optimization.
- Analyze tax laws and regulatory changes to assess their impact on client businesses.
- Recommend strategies to minimize tax risks and maximize tax benefits.
- Communicate and simplify tax matters, including GST and QST, to enhance client understanding and profitability.
- Contribute to shaping the vision and mission of the tax department.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities to attract new clients.
- Participate in networking and representation events to increase the firm’s visibility.
- Supervise the preparation and review of complex tax returns.
- Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines.
- Manage specific engagements, such as tax audits or corporate reorganizations.
- Mentor team members by providing technical training and fostering professional growth.
- Serve as a reference for complex technical questions.
- Participate in talent management, including performance evaluations and promotions.
- Stay informed of local and international tax and legislative developments.
- Contribute to the improvement of processes and tools used by the tax team.
- Propose innovative solutions to meet evolving client needs.
- Collaborate with other firm departments (accounting, audit, legal, etc.) to deliver an integrated approach to clients.
- Manage communications with external parties, such as tax authorities, on behalf of clients.
- Prepare and present tax-related presentations to internal audiences (staff) or external audiences (clients, conferences, events).
- Collaborate on other projects as needed by the organization.
Qualifications required ↓
- Master’s degree in Taxation
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a private firm
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
- Strong financial analysis skills
